Program Overview

Program Pathways are a series of courses and experiences carefully selected to help you earn your credential and prepare for your career or university transfer. Program Pathway Maps guide you through quarter-by-quarter coursework, indicate when you’ll need to complete important steps, and describe popular careers in this pathway. Some course sequences or recommended courses can be customized or adjusted by speaking with an advisor.

Information Session

Join us for our Joint CS Information Session with UW. You will learn about the pathways into both our Computer Science BS at North and UW Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science. You will also learn about the application process, prerequisite requirements, and what makes our programs unique.

Prepare for Success as a Computer Science Transfer

The primary goal of North’s Computer Science (CS) program is to prepare you for successful transfer to a 4-year institution. Three levels of computer science courses satisfy the prerequisites for most computer science and engineering departments at the UW and other universities.

CS courses for engineering and computer science majors include Introduction to Computer Programming (CSC 110), and Computer Programming I and II (CSC 142 and 143). We also offer a non-majors course, Computers for Math and Science (CSC 111).

Computer Science students should consider North’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Application Development and the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science for their next step.

North also helps many students transfer to 4-year colleges every year. These students succeed in all areas of engineering and computer science. View our Transfer Resources to learn how to plan your transfer to a 4-year college. For specific course prerequisites, visit our Prerequisites for Computer Science and Software Systems Programs page.

Introductory/Non-Major/Major Sequences

At North you can complete an AA degree, prepare for transfer to a 4-year college or university without a degree, or take courses to supplement your studies if you are a student elsewhere. In addition to coursework in programming, our introductory courses for non-majors satify requirements in other programs like science, health science and nanotechnology.

Rigorous Curriculum & Flexible Formats

Enter the program by taking Intermediate Algebra. Then take 1, 2, or 3 quarters of computer science courses as required by your major. Our strong curriculum employs modern programming languages. CS faculty members all have master’s degrees in related fields with many years of work experience and varied interests and specialties — including open source software, linguistics and application software in engineering fields.

Take advantage of flexible class scheduling by choosing from 3 online courses (supplemented with instructor-produced videos), as well as traditional classroom formats, with day and some evening classes.

Tech Support

North’s 3 open labs have 100 computers, available to all computing students on campus. You also have access to excellent tutoring services online and through the Math Learning Center.
