Faculty and Staff Development Day
Faculty and Staff Development Days are held each Fall, Winter, and Spring quarter for faculty and staff to attend department and division meetings, and to attend workshops and lectures for professional growth.
Faculty and staff can apply to present a workshop or lecture on Development Day, either in-person, online, or hyflex. As Development Day approaches, the Development Day Advisory Committee will send out a survey asking for presenters to apply.

Nobody Expects a Librarian Inquisition: Lessons about Failure and Planning from Monty Python’s Flying Circus Spanish Inquisition Skit
In-Person Session
In this presentation we re-enact the Monty Python e Spanish Inquisition skit substituting librarians as heretics to explore the decision tree that occurs when a plan breaks down. We explore the choices made by John Cleese, and how they culminate in failure. Facilitated by Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness Neal Parker featuring the acting talents of Michael Gianetto, Casey Saunders, Toni Stankovich, Sara Stapelton, and Dan Tarker.

Spooky Science: Halloween-Themed Science Demos
In-Person Session
Staff, faculty, and administrators are invited to join us for a fun, hands-on journey through our lab spaces—starting in HS2640E and wrapping up in AS1515! At each stop, we’ll uncover spooky surprises with live demos that mix Halloween fun and real science. Come for both or just one of the demos. All are welcome. No science background needed—just curiosity and a sense of adventure! Facilitated by Caroline Pew, Laurie Bauman, Jacob Frank, and our expert lab team.

Cultivating a Campus of Belonging: Understanding and Supporting Multiracial Students Within Higher Education
Online Session
Did you know that the multiracial community is the fastest growing group in the United States? In this session, participants will learn about the historical and social factors, including monoracism and colorism, that have shaped multiracial experiences. We’ll explore the nuances of multiracial identity formation and discuss strategies for creating a more inclusive and supportive campus environment for multiracial students within higher education.

White Dominant Culture is ubiquitous - often invisible yet accepted as the norm, the standard. What if we learned to identify, acknowledge and name it? Even better, what if we had something different to pivot to?
The activities in this session will help participants apply an anti-racism lens to:
Identify White Dominant Culture ideologies, and the subtle yet powerful ways they show up in our organizational culture
Reflect on our individual and collective motivations for undertaking anti-racist work as social justice agents
Establish tangible ways we can pivot to something different from White Dominant Culture

Exploring AI’s Place in Your Classroom: Policies and Flexibilities
Online Session
This workshop is a tied to and a part of the District-wide AI Taskforce work. In this workshop participants will explore the topic of AI in the context of FERPA, and accessibility. Participants will also spend dedicated time developing their own syllabi policy directly addressing AI use in the classroom. Participants will leave with instructor resources created by the AI Taskforce, as well as a syllabi policy bank to explore examples with the goal of setting up themselves and their students for success in the classroom. Facilitated by Edgar Jasso and Dan Tarker.

HyFlex Session
This presentation looks at women in leadership, the underlying principles of matriarchal leadership, and the role of Indigenous women today in our communities and in social movements. Winona LaDuke (Anishinaabe) is one of the world’s most tireless and charismatic leaders working on issues of sustainable development, climate change, Indigenous rights, local food systems, grass-roots organizing, alternative sources of energy, and the priceless value of clean water.
