The North Seattle College Financial Aid Office assists students in the process of applying for financial aid and finding ways to meet education expenses. Financial aid is designed to assist students and/or their parents in paying basic educational costs for eligible certificate and degree programs.
- Cost of Attendance (COA) - The total estimated expenses for a student, based on the number of credits they are enrolled. It includes tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. COA is not a dollar amount owed to the school. Financial aid offers, including grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships cannot exceed your COA. Costs related to students with disabilities may be submitted for consideration, though funding for these costs may be limited. COA can only include the student’s direct and indirect educational costs. Other family expenses cannot be included. Financial aid offers are prorated to accommodate less than full-time enrollment levels.
- Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) - Your EFC is an index number that the financial aid staff uses to determine how much financial aid you would receive if you attend North Seattle College. The figure is calculated after submission of your financial aid application.
The financial aid programs at North Seattle College are administered in accordance with established state and federal regulations and policies. The basic formula for determining financial need for funding is based on the following equation:
Cost of Attendance (COA) - Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) = Financial Need
The published Cost of Attendance table for the current academic year can be found here. Information for prior years may be requested from the financial aid office via email or in person.
If you have experienced an unexpected financial hardship or a significant reduction in family income since submitting your financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA), it might benefit you to submit a Special Conditions/Income Adjustment Form. The financial aid office will use your current year income to reevaluate your eligibility for financial aid. You may submit the request if you, your spouse, and/or your parents experienced one of the following situations: reduction of income due to layoff, termination, or decline in self-employment income; loss of child support or disability benefits; separation, divorce, or death of a spouse or parent after submitting the FAFSA/WASFA.
