Emergency Assistance for Students

Emergency grants will open once a quarter, announcement will be made on CANVAS when the application opens.

North Seattle College is proud to support students with emergency financial grants while enrolled in school. We know that unexpected expenses and emergencies can create a barrier to remaining enrolled in school and completing your program of study at North Seattle College. The Emergency Grant is intended as one-time help to provide temporary, partial relief while students connect with long term support resources. Recipients of Emergency Grant funds will be expected to participate in a follow-up process. More information will be provided during the application process.

Funds are limited and not all students will receive Emergency Grant funds. If we are unable to assist you with a financial grant, we will refer you to community resources as available.

Emergency grant eligibility:

  • Students must be experiencing financial troubles because of an unexpected emergency, such as a job loss, medical bills or other events they could not have predicted.
  • Students can receive the grant only once per academic year. Students who received the grant in Fall ’25 are not eligible.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least 3 credits
  • The grant may be up to $800, although all eligible applicants may not receive that full amount.
  • Students will need to explain how their request relates to an unexpected emergency.

Examples of eligible expenses include:

  • Medical bills
  • Emergency car repairs outside of regular car maintenance, pending documentation
  • One-time help with textbook costs
  • Non-tuition school fees
  • Technology
  • Partial rent expenses related to an unforeseen emergency

The grant cannot pay for:

  • Tuition
  • Past tuition balances
  • Supplemental income
  • Clothing (except for work uniforms)
  • Requests for reimbursement
  • Credit card bills
  • Past debt
  • Student loan payments
  • Traffic violations
  • Child support

Expected expenses such as rent, utility bills and other predictable expenses will not qualify unless an emergency led to the inability to pay them.

Because of limited funding, not all applicants will receive the grant.
