The North Seattle College Financial Aid Office is involved in processing the following types of financial assistance to students. Below you will find basic information about each funding source and helpful information. Reach out to our office with any questions on aid programs below.
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
This is need-based aid from the federal government that does not have to be repaid as long as students complete their courses and make Satisfactory Academic Progress. Eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid Office after students have completed the financial aid application process.
Washington State Grants are need-based aid from the State of Washington that do not have to be repaid if students complete their courses and make Satisfactory Academic Progress. These grants are only available to Washington residents with high financial need. They are administered by the Washington Student Achievement Council.
All grants are subject to general financial aid eligibility (meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress, remaining financial need, etc.) Eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid Office after students have completed the financial aid application process and established their residency status with the college.
Washington College Grant
The Washington College Grant is available to eligible Washington State Residents, including undocumented and DACA students, who meet income and program requirements. There is no age limit to the Washington College Grant. You must enroll in 3 or more credits required to graduate your program of study at North Seattle College. Washington Bridge Grant
The Washington Bridge Grant (WBG) is an annual $500 grant for Washington College Grant recipients paid during your first enrolled quarter of the award year, if eligible.
Eligibility factors include:
- You are a Washington College Grant recipient within the established 0-60% Median Family Income level
- You are not receiving College Bound Scholarship
- You are enrolled in 3 or more credits required to graduate your program of study at North Seattle College

College Bound Scholarship
The College Bound Scholarship is an early commitment of state financial aid to eligible students who meet income and program requirements and enroll in the program during middle school. For more information, visit: https://wsac.wa.gov/college-bound
Passport to College Scholarship
The Passport to College Scholarship helps Washington foster youth or unaccompanied homeless youth meeting eligibility requirements and participating in the program prior to age 21. For more information, visit: https://wsac.wa.gov/passport/guide

Work study programs give students who are attending North Seattle College at least half-time (6 or more credits) the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning money for college. Both on-campus and off-campus positions are available. Remember: Work study funds are earned by the student throughout the quarter, so the money is not available at the beginning of the quarter for paying tuition and fees. Available positions are posted on the bulletin board outside of the Financial Aid Office and also online. Work study eligibility is determined by the Financial Aid Office after students have completed the financial aid process. Please visit the Work Study pages for more information.
Scholarships provide you with funds for tuition, books or living expenses without having to pay the money back. Every scholarship has its own set of criteria that you must meet in order to be eligible. Some are based on financial need, some on merit — meaning excellence in academics, arts, athletics or other specific abilities.
You’ll find news of scholarships in listings online. Besides outside (private) scholarships, North Seattle College also offers scholarships through the Education Fund.

Direct Loans: The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program includes the Subsidized Loan (SUB) and the Unsubsidized Loan (UNSUB)
The Direct Loan Program offers low interest loans for students who are attending North Seattle College at least half-time (6 or more credits). Loan funds are available to pay for the cost of outstanding tuition and fees; when funds remain after tuition has been paid you will receive the balance according to financial aid disbursement policies. For loan information please visit the web site https://studentloans.gov/. Loans MUST be repaid and accrue interest.
Currently, there are only a handful of lending institutions, banks and credit unions offering non-federal student loans (often called Alternative or Private Educational Loans).These types of loans generally require students to have good credit and a steady source of income and/or to provide a cosigner who does. Depending on the type of loan, a student may be required to make payments while in school.
North Seattle College does not endorse any lender. Students are encouraged to research loans before making a final decision on what type of alternative loan is best for them. Loans may be used for tuition and fees, books and supplies, room andboard, transportation, and personal expenses. Loans are disbursed as physical checks, and funds do not directly pay for school tuition.
The Department of Education, in accordance with the Truth in Lending Act, mandates that colleges are only allowed to certify loans up to “The Cost of Attendance/Cost of Education” as determined each year by the Washington Financial Aid Association. All financial aid awards, including loans, affect a student’s budget. The Financial Aid Office can assist you regarding your individual borrowing limits.

The Office of Veteran's Services assists veterans, reservists, active duty personnel and eligible family members who receive Veteran's Administration education benefits. It also verifies the State of Washington Vietnam-Service and Persian Gulf tuition reduction for eligible veterans.
Veterans may be eligible to receive a partial tuition waiver, work study or money for educational expenses. See Veteran's Services for more information.
The Workforce Education Office can help if you are looking for career training and need financial assistance or are an unemployed or dislocated worker. Workforce Education may also assist you as a student enrolled in English as Second Language (ESL) classes or if you are completing your GED or high school diploma. North Seattle College is proud to support students with emergency financial grants while enrolled in school. We know that unexpected expenses and emergencies can create a barrier to remaining enrolled in school and completing your program of study.
We have multiple sources of funds students can access from one application. Each funding program has different eligibility criteria, but don’t worry about that. We will match you with the funding that meets your needs. Funds are limited and not all students will receive emergency grants from these programs. If we are unable to assist you with a financial grant, we will refer you to community resources as available.

If your tuition or textbooks are being paid by an outside agency or employer such as WorkSource, DSHS, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Labor and Industries, Boeing, etc., you must provide the Financial Aid Office with an official payment letter or voucher upon registering for classes. The voucher or payment letter should be submitted to the Financial Aid Office at least three (3) business days prior to the tuition payment deadlines. This will allow our office the time necessary to input the information into the student system database and have it ready for you to use to pay the tuition and fee charges.
The financial aid office will also process vouchers or payment letters for book charges at the North Bookstore. Book vouchers may be issued two weeks before the quarter begins and must be used by the end of the third week of the quarter.

You can use your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for current educational expenses, up to the published Cost of Attendance for the academic year.
Accessing and managing your AmeriCorps award is done online at; https://my.americorps.gov/mp/login.do. To request a payment go into your account in My AmeriCorps. In your home page, under “My Education Award” click on the “Create Education Award Payment Request” link to bring up the screen to request the payment. Follow the instructions and complete the form. When you click “submit” a notice will be sent to North Seattle College. Our college is listed under Seattle College North.

GET Payments
If you plan to pay tuition and fees using your GET account, after you have registered for classes, notify the Financial Aid Office that you will be requesting a transfer of GET funds. You will then need to request an account distribution from your GET account on the plan website. Payment may take two to three weeks for processing. Students paying with GET funds, may request the an extension on their tuition deadline, by emailing the Financial Aid office at NSCCFinancialAid@SeattleColleges.edu
WA DreamAhead Plans

A 529 plan is an educational savings plan designed to help families set aside funds for college costs.
If you plan to pay tuition and fees using a 529 Plan, be sure to register for classes early and request the funds from your plan administrator or adviser. All plans have different forms and request different documents in order to process your payment requests.
It can take up to 30 days for our office to receive payments from 529 plans so please authorize your payment with that in mind to ensure the payment reaches us by the payment due date for the quarter. We generally post payments within 1-2 days of receipt, so keep an eye on your Student Service Center Poral to see when your 529 payment has reached our office and is posted to the student account.
529 Plan checks should be made payable to North Seattle College and include the student name and 9-digit ctcLink ID number on the check and mail to:
