Preparation
Training is offered through AAS degree, certificate or diploma programs at numerous community or technical colleges. Once certified, workers get experience on-the-job.
Certification
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Techniciansadminister national certification exams. Under both programs, technicians must be recertified every 2 years, taking 20 hours of continuing education within the 2-year certification period. At least 1 hour must be in pharmacy law. Up to 10 hours can be earned on the job under direct supervision/instruction of a pharmacist.
