Services
Welcome>>1: Getting Started>>2: Registration>>3: Programs>>4: Services
NSC provides a variety of support services to promote student success. Many of the services are on the second floor of the College Center building, such as Student Success Services which includes Advising, Counseling, and Disability Services. Also, on the second floor are Admission/Registration, the Office of Veteran Services and International Programs. Other services available on campus include Career Services/WorkSource, the Child Care Center and Workforce Education. In the next segment, we’ll cover these services. They won’t all apply to you. But the ones that do just may prove to be invaluable during your time at NSC.
Meet with an advisor to get your questions answered about degree and certificate options and requirements, to plan your pre-requisites and get help with course selection, to prepare for college transfer, and to connect to educational resources and opportunities both online and on campus. Advising assists students pursuing transfer degrees, career training degrees and certificates.
If you are planning to work with any of the following programs, please contact that program or department directly for advising services: ESL, GED or high school completion, International Students, Early Childhood Education, Watch Technology, or Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees.
Your advisor will help you develop an Educational Plan — a roadmap to a college degree or certificate, including an outline of coursework required to achieve your educational goals in a timely manner. By meeting with an advisor your first quarter, you can stay on track and avoid obstacles to graduation and successful transfer. The college requires that students meet with an advisor by the end of their second quarter to create their Educational Plan.
Make an Advising Appointment
You can schedule a 30-minute appointment with your assigned advisor to:
- Review program requirements
- Select appropriate courses
- Design an individualized education plan
- Discuss your academic progress standing (alert/probation/suspension)
- Connect with support services
Drop-In Advising
Advising has staff available to answer quick questions at most times, although it may not be with an advisor in your area of study. These ‘drop-in’ meetings are 15 minutes or less and are restricted to:
- Policy/procedure questions
- Help with adding/dropping classes
- Campus referrals
- How to run your degree audit
- Requesting permission numbers
- Quarterly Veteran’s Advisory Form (classes already chosen)

Through WCCCSA, NSC partners with educational providers such as the American Institute of Foreign Study (AIFS) which offers specially tailored programs for first-time international travelers. Support includes pre-program advising, a pre-departure orientation, as well as in-country support throughout the study abroad program. Programs change each quarter with opportunities for you to study in Spain, Costa Rica, Italy, UK, or South Africa. There are frequently opportunities in other countries as well.
NSC also offers service learning programs abroad during the summer through Global Impact. Community members, health care professionals, and students can volunteer in Vietnam, Peru, India or Tanzania.
Contact the International Programs Office for more information.
Transcripts
A transcript is the permanent record of a student’s academic history. Every course taken at NSC, whether completed or not, whether passed or not, is represented on the transcript. Therefore, it is critical that you do well in every class. The transcript displays what courses have been taken, when they were taken, the grade received and the GPA. You can order official transcripts in various ways. See the Transcript Web pages for details.
Transcript Credit Evaluation (for courses completed at another college)
You need a formal credit transfer evaluation for transfer degrees and career training programs only if you want credits from another college or university applied toward NSC degree or certificate requirements. You must then submit official transcripts from each college and the Request for Evaluation of Incoming Credits form, which you can obtain form ARRC. In the meantime, it is recommended you meet with an advisor for an unofficial evaluation of incoming credits.
You can get assistance with transcripts and credit evaluations in the Admissions/Registration/Records/Credentials Office (ARRC).
NSC is committed to assisting students who have served our country. The Office of Veterans Services offers assistance to veterans, reservists, active duty personnel and eligible family members who are eligible to receive Veteran’s Administration educational benefits.
In the Veterans Services office we handle your VA educational benefits as quickly and efficiently as possible. We assist you with many other benefits as well. We can get you referrals for mental health issues, educational issues, health or auto insurance — anything related to veteran affairs. Come to the office and we will get you squared away.
The Workforce Education Office provides financial assistance and support for qualified prospective and current students of career training programs. If you qualify, you may receive funding for tuition and fees, textbooks, required supplies, student ID card, a parking permit or an ORCA transit pass. The program may also assist students enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes or students completing their GED or high school diploma.

Through this program, strategic partnerships- referred to as “Alliances”- are created between local colleges, universities, and other educational institutions to provide academic preparation and career coaching to these dedicated students.
“Alliances” exist across the country, connecting LSAMP students to support systems, research and funding opportunities, and a community of like-minded peers and mentors. At North Seattle College, we are part of an alliance with Green River College and Pierce College called the LSAMP Puget Sound Alliance.

Hopefully, you learned a lot about the support services available at NSC. These programs are designed to make you a more successful student, so be sure to take advantage of them.
In fact, I’m on my way to Advising right now. Even though I already know my major, I check in with my advisor each quarter to be sure I am on track and taking the right classes. I have learned firsthand that the support services on campus will help get me where I want to be.
