3D Work-Study

Description:

This position will work with the 3D Instructional Technician and Ceramic and Sculpture Faculty on the North Seattle College campus. This position is particularly valuable for students showing an interest in craft, studio, and fine art. Especially those interested in learning more about the field of ceramics. Position activities could include any of the following depending on student and studio needs: 

  • Monitor open studio sessions for currently enrolled ceramic and sculpture students during weekly set hours
  • Assist with studio upkeep including mopping floors, wiping down sink and table areas, and additional studio cleaning and organizing tasks as needed. 
  • Assist with a range of studio workflow needs including loading and unloading of student work from the kilns, pugging clay reclaim, mixing glazes, general maintenance and equipment repair.  
  • Prepare materials and kits for use in the classroom along with other duties as assigned by the 3D tech and the ceramic and sculpture faculty. 
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming shared studio environment. 

Educational Benefit:

  • Gain knowledge regarding proper health and safety protocols to follow, studio maintenance and organization.  
  • Learn about loading and unloading kilns, reclaiming clay, and potentially mixing glazes. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Art majors/minor preferred especially those with an interest in pottery, sculpture, or 3D arts
  • Prior experience working with clay (hand building or wheel throwing). Prior experience at North Seattle College a plus, but not a requirement. 
  • Be available for a minimum of 3, three-hour regularly set weekly shifts 
  • Communication skills, dependability, flexibility, and the ability to work independently are key. 
  • Must be willing to get dirty. 
  • Candidates for this position must be able to lift up to 50lbs
