How to Report Different Concerns About Students

Creating and sustaining a safe, inclusive environment requires the entire campus community’s help and commitment. The information below offers a guide of where and how to report concerns.

What it might look like

  • Imminent risk of harm to oneself or others
  • Acute health condition needing immediate care

What to do

What it might look like:

  • Heated argument between students
  • Abuse of substances
  • Academic work containing violent or threatening content not part of assignment
  • Behaviors that make other students uncomfortable

What to do:

  • For non-imminent harm needing immediate response, call NSC Safety and Security at 206-934-3636
  • Alert supervisor if appropriate
  • Submit a CARE report

What it might look like

  • Expression of hopelessness
  • A break with reality
  • Contemplation of suicide
  • Increase in irritability or anger outbursts

What to do

  • For non-imminent harm needing immediate response, call 988, Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
  • Alert supervisor if appropriate
  • Submit a CARE report

What it might look like:

  • Moderate disruptive conduct in classroom
  • Plagiarism or cheating
  • Discriminatory conduct
  • Derogatory language

  • Physical violence
  • Bringing weapons onto campus

  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual assault
  • Domestic violence
  • Dating violence

What to do

  • Submit Title IX report
  • Alert supervisor if appropriate

What it might look like

  • A minor has unexplained bruises, burns, injuries
  • A minor expresses unsafe living conditions at home
  • A student tells you about abuse or neglect of anyone under 18

  • Alert NSC Safety and Security at 206-934-3636
  • Alert supervisor if appropriate

What it might look like

  • Student is adversely targeted by their instructor for their ethnic background
  • Student is denied a work study opportunity due to their race
  • Student is the target of frequent cyber-attacks by a group of other students
