Frequently Asked Questions about CARE Team at North Seattle College

What is the purpose of the CARE Team at North Seattle College?

The CARE Team is a multidisciplinary group of campus representatives that assesses reported concerns about students. After reviewing the report, the team provides a recommended plan to support the student, as well as faculty and staff who may be working with the student.

How do I know if I should file a CARE concern?

If you’re concerned about a student’s well-being and believe they could benefit from additional support, you are encouraged to submit a CARE report.

Do I have to tell a student I’m submitting a concern?

You are not required to tell students, but it is considered best practice to let them know you're submitting a CARE report because you want to support them.

If the student has shared sensitive information, use your judgment to determine what information to share in the CARE report. If needed, you may file a report without identifying the student by name.

Can I submit a concern anonymously?

Yes, you may submit a report anonymously, but if no contact information is shared, the CARE Team will not be able to follow up with you to confirm receipt of the report or ask additional questions. This may limit the range of actions the CARE Team can take.

Who can submit a CARE concern?

Anyone can submit a CARE report.

What happens after I submit a concern?

A member of the CARE Team will follow up with you to confirm that your report has been received. They may ask for additional details.

Due to privacy laws, the CARE Team may not be able to provide specific follow-up information or outcomes.

Will students get in trouble if I submit a CARE concern?

The student conduct process is separate from CARE interventions; however, most CARE Team members are required to report incidents of sexual misconduct, discrimination, and bullying described by Title IX and Policy 282. If there are imminent risks to the health and safety of the campus community, disciplinary action may also be taken to address those risks.

Will my report be confidential?

The CARE Team cannot guarantee complete confidentiality. Some information may need to be shared with other college officials if it relates to the health and safety of the campus community. However, the team handles all cases with discretion and makes every effort to protect the privacy of those involved.
