About Us: We invite you to consider joining our team, an equity-focused open-access college dedicated to helping all students achieve their academic and professional goals. As a Peer Navigator, you are a key member of the Seattle Promise team that is responsible for supporting Retention Specialists in their efforts to promote the Seattle Promise program's academic and culturally responsive services. In this internship role, you will have the chance to build dynamic partnerships between Promise Scholars and their college community, as well as provide an inclusive and safe space for Promise Scholars. 

Position Summary:

  • Position will be open until filled. Early applications are encouraged
  • Priority deadline/First review of materials will begin: August 18, 2023
  • Second Review of materials will begin: August 25, 2023
  • Hours per Week: up to 19/Hourly Rate: $18.69

What you will be working on:

Program Development and Administration: 

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and communicating Seattle Promise program activities including quarterly Retention workshops and culturally-relevant social engagements to build a strong sense of community and identity. 
  • Collaborate with student support services, student organizations, and clubs to support their initiatives and provide guidance on event planning and execution. 
  • Provide support during on-campus events such as Readiness Academy and Summer Bridge, including event set-up, registration, crowd management, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees. 
  • Provide clerical support to program directors and Retention Specialists, including meeting notes, appointment scheduling, maintaining records, collecting feedback from participants, and contributing to program assessment and improvement efforts. 
  • Help create and distribute promotional materials for event programming, utilizing various platforms such as social media, print, and email communications. 

Student Support and Mentoring 

  • Address inquiries and provide referral information about upcoming programs and appropriate services through Seattle Colleges partners.  
  • Build a trusting relationship with Promise Scholars and act as a liaison between Scholars and the Seattle Promise department

Minimum Qualifications:

What you bring as a candidate: 

  • (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience) 
  • Enthusiasm for student engagement, event planning, and creating an inclusive campus community to foster a strong sense of belonging in all Seattle Promise Scholars
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with a diverse student population from various backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. 
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team across multiple levels. 
  • Familiarity with event promotion strategies or graphic design, or social media platforms (such as Instagram and Discord) 
  • Prior experience in event planning, program coordination, or involvement in student organizations is a plus.
