Peer Mentor

Description:

Peer Mentors serve to support and encourage first year Seattle Promise students throughout the academic year. Through holding group and individual meetings with first year students, Peer Mentors will be a knowledgeable guide for new students, will help students identify campus resources, and will serve as a role model and advocate. This position is 8-15 hours per week, with flexible hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Peer mentors will work remotely until Seattle Colleges return to in-person classes. Peer mentor training will take place in early September 2023.

Work study eligible students will have priority for peer mentor positions. 

The wage is $17.24/hour. We are hiring for peer mentor positions at North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, and South Seattle College.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in peer mentor training sessions in early September
  • Plan and facilitate student engagement activities
  • Hold mentoring meetings to help students adjust to college life
  • Develop relationships with and provide support as a positive role model for first-year students
  • Learn and share campus resources that are available for students
  • Help students build college success skills and identify campus resources to help them succeed
  • Build community through online content and other activities to share college advice with Seattle Promise students
  • Attend meetings with the peer mentor team and supervisor
  • Assist with Summer Bridge orientation on September 13,14 and 19
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be a current first year Seattle Promise student, or have completed at least 30 credits at Seattle Colleges
  • Be committed to attending Seattle Colleges as a student through the end of Winter quarter 2024 (preferred through the end of Spring quarter 2024)
  • Demonstrate effective time management practices
  • Be willing to learn and share information about the Seattle Colleges community and campus resources
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a positive attitude and a genuine desire to help your peers succeed
  • Display a willingness to learn about different cultures and a commitment to antiracist practices
