Identify Career Interests & Academic Majors
Lots of students arrive at NSC (North Seattle College) unsure of which area of study or academic pathway is the best fit for them. This is an exciting opportunity to get to know yourself better by examining your priorities, exploring your interests, values, and skills, and trying out new classes, clubs, and campus activities.
Counseling is here to help
There are several ways to access counseling services for help figuring out which academic pathway aligns best with your qualities and goals.
1:1 Career Counseling
Make an appointment with an NSC counselor to identify your priorities, goals, interests, values, skills, and personality traits and discuss academic pathways that complement these variables. NSC counselors can help you complete and interpret interest inventories and navigate online career exploration tools.
Online Career Exploration Tools
As an NSC student, you automatically have free access to the Washington State Career Information System. Watch the tutorial above for instructions on how to create your personal profile, complete self-surveys that show you careers that align with your priorities, and explore the comprehensive database of Washington State career information, including task descriptions, growth projections, average salaries, and academic preparation.
You can also access the O*Net Interest Inventory operated by the U.S. Government for free. This resource connects to a comprehensive database of careers for the entire country!
