Peer Mentor- TRIO SSS Program 

Description:

The Trio Peer Mentor is a student staff member who provides support and leadership to students who are in the trio program. The peer mentor’s primary role is to focus on TRIO student success by providing engagement, leadership, guidance, and mentorship toward their academic success. 

Trio Peer Mentors will have the following Responsibilities:

  •  Attend a 1–2-week student leadership training in the summer before the academic year.
  •  Plan 2 quarterly community events for trio students

 One event with your own caseload
 One event as a whole group

  •  Attend 1-hour weekly Staff meetings.
  •  Participate in quarterly/or yearly campus committees or forums if needed.
  •  Be able to do class presentations on TRIO
  •  Hold Office Hours to support TRIO students.
  •  Must work at least 10 hours a week
  •  Must Meet/or connect with your Mentees during:

Week 2: Checking in on class progress and need for early support. 
Week 9: Check-in before finals

Minimum Qualifications:

For Consideration, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  •  Must be a currently enrolled student at North Seattle College
  •  Must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A of a 2.7 
  •  Must have completed a quarter or more at one of the Seattle Colleges
  •  Must have experience coaching, mentoring, or assisting others as a role model
  •  Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks in a confidential and professional manner
  •  Must have the ability to listen empathically and meet people where they are
  •  Must have the ability to manage administrative tasks with efficiency
  •  Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  Must have experiential and/or educational awareness of cross-cultural dynamics
  •  Must have the ability to work as a team player
  •  Must have the ability to problem solve and be resourceful
  •  Must have a sense of punctuality
  •  Must have knowledge of North Seattle College resources and campus
  •  Must be comfortable speaking publicly
