Discipline Description
The study of anatomy and physiology looks at the relationship between the structures of the human body (anatomy) and the functions that occur within and among those structures (physiology). The structure and functions of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems are critical in understanding how these various components work together to protect and promote homeostasis. Homeostasis is those conditions that support normal functioning of the human body and also respond to illness or injuries.
Those who study anatomy and physiology often do so as a foundation for more advanced studies in biology and related sciences and as preparation for both medical and paramedical careers.
