North Seattle College’s 2-year AAS degree in Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) - formerly called Biomedical Equipment Technology - gives you a strong foundation in electronics and the specialized training you’ll need for a job installing, calibrating, repairing and maintaining sophisticated patient monitoring and diagnostic equipment. These jobs are in demand — HTM was recently named one of the top 30 career choices by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statitstics.
Flexible Schedule & Excellent Labs
You can take courses toward the AAS degree on a daytime or evening schedule or a combination. You’ll study with the core faculty who support all electronic programs, as well as trained instructors who are themselves medical equipment technicians, with experience in major hospitals in the area. Lab facilities provide hands-on experience with a large variety of medical devices and specialized test equipment.
Courses offer state-of-the-art knowledge/skill sets, including a foundation in electronics technology, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology, as well as preparation specific to employment in the hospital environment. During your final quarter, you’ll get direct clinical experience during an externship in a hospital clinical engineering department or medical equipment manufacturer.
Strong Community Ties
North’s program has a strong networking relationship with the community, and the local area is a center for medical manufacturing. Financial aid opportunities for students from North include an annual scholarship through the Washington State Biomedical Association. There are many opportunities for graduates to work in local hospitals and tech companies, and knowledge of HTM increases marketable skills/employment opportunities for students studying electronics.
