Pathways to Teaching Excellence

Spring 2024 – Pathways to Teaching Excellence: Teaching into the Future

This spring, the Teaching & Learning Center is offering a sequence of eight Pathways to Teaching Excellence gatherings designed to promote equitable and inclusive learning experiences. This community of practice is supported by Title III and Carl D. Perkins grant funding to advance North Seattle College’s Guided Pathways efforts.
Participants in the learning community can earn up to $480 minus taxes for completing this customized training designed to provide you with applicable teaching strategies to promote student inclusion and success in both virtual and in-person classes.

Cohort Selection Criteria

We have 15 slots available open to all faculty and 15 reserved for Workforce Instruction faculty.
Recognizing the unique needs of adjunct faculty as identified by NSC’s Guiding Team Part-Time Faculty Workgroup, we will be prioritizing applicants who are part-time instructors.
New faculty to North Seattle College will also be prioritized.
And even if you do not join the cohort, you are welcome to attend these teaching workshops. Keep an eye out for our regular TLC Professional Development emails for announcements.

What Am I Committing To?

Cohort participants must agree to:

  •  Attend the orientation meeting at the start of the sequence and a reflection meeting at the end. (2-hours total)
  •  Complete 10 hours of training through a combination of workshop attendance and the production of deliverables that demonstrate understanding of the pedagogical principles in the lessons you have chosen to focus on. For example, you could choose to spend 5 hours attending trainings and 5 hours producing a deliverable for the 10 hour total, or you could use all 10 hours to attend trainings.

How Do I Get Compensated?

Once completed, cohort participants will submit a PAR documenting their hours for approval by Dan Tarker, Dean of the Library & Learning Support Services. Payment for those funded by Title III will be proceeded by Aimee Brown. Payment for those funded by Perkins funds will be processed by Jeanette Miller. Participants can earn up to $480 minus taxes.  Please allow 4-6 weeks after the completion of all learning community tasks to receive your stipend.

Forms to Submit for Compensation

Participants will document the time they attended workshops and worked on deliverables on a PAR form. The form will be submitted to Dan Tarker by June 6th. Forms will then be submitted to either Title III or Workforce to process the stipend. Payment should be released in early July 2024.

Important Note!

Even if you are not signed up to participate in the Pathways to Teaching Excellence faculty cohort, all faculty are welcome to participate in these training sessions. Though no compensation is tied to this level of attendance, it will give faculty an opportunity to refresh their knowledge or learn about the latest research on these pedagogical approaches to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion in learning environments.

Trainings will be recorded and archived in the Teaching & Learning Center Canvas shell.
