Terence Hsiao

Terence has over thirty years of executive level administrative experience in higher education enlivened by a brief interlude as a consultant. He has a deep commitment to supporting the work of the faculty and staff who help students realize their dreams and potential. Terence graduated from UC Davis and subsequently managed several newspapers before being recruited by UCLA to manage their student media. He worked at UCLA for 15 years as Media Director, IT Director and Business Development Director. While at UCLA he played a key role in the founding of Al-Talib, the first Muslim college newspaper in the US and in the development of the first web accessible college newspaper and one of the earliest online college bookstores.

Terence earned his MBA at UCLA's Anderson School and subsequently provided financial consulting services to startups and early stage companies. But he missed higher education and returned to it becoming the Vice President of Administrative Services at Cascadia College, he held that role at for 15 years before retiring. Terence was responsible for finance, information services, facilities, capital projects, safety and security and served as the liaison managing the college's relationship to the University of Washington, Bothell throughout that time. He was also tasked with managing human resources and international programs for several years. Under his stewardship international programs experienced the highest growth rate in the Washington community college system. While at Cascadia Terence arranged the financing for three buildings and a garage and oversaw the construction of the second LEED Platinum building in Washington's higher education system. Under his stewardship Cascadia grew significantly and became the most fiscally sound "small" community college in Washington.

Terence began his service as Interim Vice President of Administrative Services in July 2020 and feels blessed to have the opportunity to contribute during this challenging time in higher education.
