Printing
The SMC offers various printing services to both students and staff. Large-format printing is also available to community members (non-students).
Document & Photo Printing
We have two laser printers capable of printing black-and-white or color on up to 12" x 18", including on cardstock! For students, print costs are 5¢ per black-and-white sheet and 10¢ per color sheet. Additionally, students are given $2.00 in free printing credit to use across campus at the start of each quarter, which does apply to printing at the SMC! We typically stock the following paper sizes and types:
- 8.5x11 (Letter) copier paper and cardstock
- 11x17 (Tabloid) copier paper and cardstock
- 12x18 (Arch D) copier paper and cardstock
- 9x12 (Arch A) copier paper
- 8.5x14 (Legal) copier paper
For staff, Letter size copier paper is free to print at the SMC. For all other paper sizes and types, print jobs must be ordered in advance using the SMC Poster Print Ordering Form. Contact us via email at nscmediacenter@seattlecolleges.edu with any questions.
Large-Format Poster Printing
We have an HP DesignJet Z6 large-format printer capable of printing on media up to 44" x 66". We stock media in 24 inch, 36 inch, and 42 inch sizes. Students and community members can pay for poster printing in-person at the SMC using tap-to-pay (coming Fall 2026). Community members without active North Seattle College enrollment are charged a 15% non-student fee, and must either bring a laptop or a USB drive/storage media with the file(s) they would like printed, or can email us the document instead. SMC staff will not print posters until payment is completed. Staff must use the SMC Poster Print Ordering Form unless they are paying out-of-pocket (i.e. not for purposes related to their department).
We typically stock the following media:
- High Bright Inkjet Bond: Uncoated CAD/line-drawing paper for monochrome and basic color plots. The closest to "copier paper" we stock for our plotter.
- Coated Matte Bond (most popular for indoor short-term posters): Mid-weight coated paper for color CAD, renderings, and event posters with color graphics. Moderately more durable than 4 mil High Bright and performs better on ink bonding/color rendering.
- Matte Polypropylene Banner: Synthetic banner and poster material, offering greater water and tear resistance than standard paper. Comparable to Coated Matte Bond in print quality.
- Heavyweight Matte Bond: Heavyweight matte presentation, poster, and photo paper. Added thickness improves durability and print quality over Coated Matte Bond. Comparable to cardstock.
- Satin Photo Paper: Photo-base paper with satin (semi-gloss) finish for production photo printing and proofing.
- Vinyl with Permanent Adhesive: Vinyl film with permanent adhesive backing and peel-off liner for large decals, labels, and wall/window graphics.
