Equipment

If you are a currently enrolled North Seattle College student, you can check out items like cameras, lenses, tripods, drawing tablets, webcams, headsets, microphones, and more from the SMC at no cost. Please refer to the steps below for more details.

How to Borrow

  1. Pick what equipment you want from the equipment catalog.
  2. Fill out the SMC request form. To ensure fair access to our resources, each student may only check out a maximum of two items at a time, and these items cannot be from the same category.
  3. Wait for an email notification that the equipment is ready. This may take up to three business days. After we send this notification, you have up to five business days to pick it up before we release it to another student.
  4. Pick up the equipment at the SMC on the third floor of the Library Building, Room 3202. Please check our open hours before visiting to make sure we'll be open. Present your photo ID and staff will walk you through what items are present in the equipment you checked out. After this, may can take the equipment home.

How to Return

  1. Ensure that you have all items you originally received and that the equipment is in good condition. If any items are lost or damaged, notify SMC staff as soon as possible.
  2. Visit the SMC on the third floor of the Library Building, Room 3202 during our open hours, with all items present and accounted for.
  3. A staff member will check the items you have brought and if everything is present, the return will be processed. The return cannot be completed until either all items are returned in good condition or replacement/repair fees are paid to North Seattle College. A staff member will discuss this with you if necessary.
  4. Please allow time to process your returned items. The items may stay on your record until SMC staff officially check the equipment in. Students will not be charged any overdue fees during this process. A return confirmation email will be sent once the process is complete.

Loan Contract

SMC equipment can only be used for academic purposes related to classes or campus activities. Media equipment items have a 7-day checkout period to start. You will need to return to the SMC with the equipment to renew unless otherwise arranged. Kits must be returned with all items present and in good condition. Students are responsible for maintaining the condition of the equipment and lost or damaged items may incur a repair or replacement fee.
