Peer Mentor
Description:
Peer Mentors support students by providing guidance,encouragement,and resources to help them navigate academic and personal challenges.They serve as role models,helping students adjust to college life,connect with resources,and develop strategies for success.This position 5-10 hours per week.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model and resource for up to 50 student mentees
- Assist students with academic, personal, and social challenges.
- Guide students in accessing tutoring, advising, financial aid, and campus resources.
- Provide mentorship through check-ins, group discussions, and one-on-one meetings.
- Support Project Baldwin & Seattle Promise initiatives and outreach efforts.
- Help troubleshoot Canvas, Starfish, Outlook, and other online student platforms.
- Encourage student involvement in Project Baldwin & Seattle Promise events and activities such as Readiness Academy & Graduation.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and events.
Educational Benefit:
Becoming a Peer Mentor provides valuable leadership experience, enhancing communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Mentors gain a deeper understanding of campus resources and develop coaching and advising abilities, which are useful for future careers in education, counseling, social work, and leadership roles. The role also strengthens time management, organization, and teamwork, all of which are transferable to various professional fields. Additionally, Peer Mentors build meaningful connections, foster a supportive community, and gain satisfaction positively impacting fellow students’ academic success and personal growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (maintained consecutively).
- Completed at least 45 college credits.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to support students from diverse backgrounds.
- Self-motivated, responsible, and organized.
- Familiarity with campus resources
- Enthusiastic about helping others succeed.
