Library Assistant
Description:
- Assist patrons at the circulation desk with checking out and checking in materials; provide quick directional information.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all patron information and records.
- Help library employees with opening and closing procedures as needed.
- Collection maintenance: shelve library materials in general collection and behind circulation desk. Shift and redistribute shelved materials to meet space considerations as needed. Shelf-read assigned areas. Assist with collection inventory.
- Assist students with setting up their computer login credentials and with using the printer/photocopier/scanner.
- Search for lost or missing library collection items.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Educational Benefit:
- Besides earning money to help offset educational costs, work study students employed by the library will develop abilities applicable to future job situations, such as customer service, office work, and basic computer and research skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
No experience is necessary, but applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate a pleasant,helpful work attitude.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills, including how to file materials accurately using the Library of Congress classification system.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Follow workplace procedures and policies.
- Pay attention to details, and switch to different tasks as department needs and priorities change.
- Be punctual and work a set quarterly schedule during the library’s open hours.
