As of October 1, 2020 the library no longer has any Chromebooks available for loan.  Students can still apply for the Chromebook rental program, but you will be put on the waitlist until one becomes available. If you are in immediate need of assistance, you can apply for aid at this page

Technology Loan Program for Students

The North Seattle College Library has a limited supply of Chromebooks, hotspots, and headsets available for checkout. To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a registered student at North Seattle College. 
  • Be enrolled in at least 5 credits for the quarter during which you want to borrow equipment. 
  • Not have access to a computer or the other equipment you wish to borrow in your home.  

You may borrow equipment for one quarter at a time. Here’s how:

Step 1: Fill out this form and press submit. Make sure you have registered for classes before asking to borrow equipment. 
Step 2: A staff member will contact you with information on how and when to pick up your equipment from the library at North Seattle College. 
Step 3: Pick up your equipment! Please note, you will have just 5 business days to pick up your equipment before it is distributed to the next student on the list. 

Renewals are allowed if you are registered for next quarter.  Once you are registered, complete this equipment renewal e-form.

Please return borrowed equipment directly to the library. All equipment is due back to the library at the end of the quarter. Check the Library website for return hours. If you drop your classes a before the end of the quarter, please contact the Library to make arrangements for immediate return of equipment.

  • Contact a computer tutor through the Learning Center here, General computer tutoring - you will need to log in with your Canvas account  Computer tutors are experienced in helping students with a wide variety of technology issues

Recommended Minimum Computer Specifications: NSC recommends that if you can, find a Microsoft (MS) Windows laptop computer you can afford. With most windows laptop computers you will need to download the Office Suite of applications for it to be functional (see instructions here).  Windows laptops work really well with the campus Microsoft environment, Zoom and Canvas, but are more difficult to set up and running.

Minimum for Windows laptop are:

  • 11.6" screen
  • Intel CPU (processor)
  • 64GB storage (hard drive)
  • 4 GB RAM (memory)
  • 2 USB ports
  • microphone, speakers, camera

Chromebooks are another option and do not require download of any programs, and you can access what you need thorough the Chrome browser or download Microsoft programs through Google Play. Chromebooks do not integrate as easily with Outlook, Canvas, or Zoom but they do work adequately. Chromebooks work easily right out of the box, but may lack some of the functions/flexibility you would have with a Microsoft laptop.
