Tuition Assistance & Third-Party Funding

Overview

Third-party tuition assistance refers to financial support provided by an employer, organization, government agency, or Tribe that pays all or a portion of a student's tuition, fees, or other education-related expenses.

Upon receipt and approval of a third-party sponsor’s funding authorization, Seattle Colleges will post a non-cash placeholder on the student's account. This placeholder indicates that third-party funding is anticipated; it does not mean that Seattle Colleges has received payment on the student's behalf.

If payment is not received from the third-party sponsor within 30 days of the initial billing date, the placeholder will be reversed, and the balance due will be the student's responsibility.

Any charges not approved for sponsor funding are the student's responsibility to pay by the specific term due dates.

Student Responsibilities

Students must provide funding authorization from the sponsoring organization for Seattle Colleges to recognize anticipated third-party funding for tuition and fees. The authorization must be on the organization’s letterhead or be an official payment voucher issued by the organization.

All funding documents are subject to review by Student Financials staff and must include:

  • Student name
  • Student ID
  • Term or academic year covered
  • Number of credits or specific coursework covered
  • Dollar amount or percentage of charges covered, if applicable
  • Any funding limitations or restrictions
  • Sponsoring organization’s:
    • Name
    • Billing address
    • Contact name
    • Telephone number
    • Email address

Students must submit the authorization or payment voucher to ThirdParty@seattlecolleges.edu or to the college Cashier’s Office.

A new authorization is required for each term.

Third-Party Billing

Third-party invoices will be sent at the end of the add/drop period each term. Seattle Colleges bills the sponsoring organization directly for tuition and fees covered under the approved authorization.

Seattle Colleges reserves the right to approve or decline third-party tuition assistance arrangements.
