Funding Opportunities

There are several sources of funding available for undocumented students attending college. We’ve included many of them on this page for you to review. If you’re attending or seeking to attend North Seattle College, we highly recommend applying for the Seattle Colleges Foundation Scholarships and Washington State Financial Aid (WASFA). Both funding sources offer a variety of different awards. If you have any questions about college funding, please reach out to your funding navigator.

Seattle Colleges

Seattle Colleges Foundation Scholarships

Seattle Colleges Foundation scholarships are available to help students at North, Central, and South cover tuition and/or living expenses while in school. Applications are accepted each year in Winter quarter for the upcoming academic year. One simple application qualifies current and incoming students to be considered for scholarships up to $5,000. Workforce Education: Opportunity Grant (NSC)

The goal of the Opportunity Grant is to help low–income adults reach the educational tipping point in high wage, high demand careers. Eligible students pursuing an approved program may receive funds to cover tuition and mandatory fees up to 45 credits and up to $1,000 for required books and supplies per academic year. WA State

Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA)

The WASFA is for people who choose not to file a federal FAFSA application. There are several reasons people may choose to complete a WASFA instead of a FAFSA. For example:

  • You or your parent(s) are undocumented or do not qualify for federal financial aid because of your immigration status.
  • Your parent(s) or family member(s) do not wish to file a FAFSA.
  • You have privacy concerns about filing a FAFSA.
  • You or your parent(s) do not and will not file federal income taxes.
  • You have federal loans that are in default.
  • You owe repayment on federal grants.

To review your eligibility and complete the WASFA application, please visit the Washington Student Achievement Council. If you complete the WASFA, you will be considered for various types of Washington State financial aid.

The MALDEFF Scholarship Resource Guide is a free, informative resource guide for students, parents, and educators with an extensive list of scholarships, including many that do not inquire about immigration status. Here are several scholarships that may be of interest:

Point Foundation: Community College Scholarship

The Point Foundation offers a Community College Scholarship that “empowers LGBTQ+ and ally students who are earning their associate degree or taking coursework that will lead to transfer to a four-year college or university, offering financial support, community resources, and professional development.” (No citizenship restrictions—helpful criteria for students to look-out for on scholarships, fellowships, and other awards).
