Discipline Description

Library and Information Science is a discipline that investigates and endeavors to improve upon systems for recording, selecting, organizing, evaluating, managing and disseminating information in all formats.  The field is increasingly connected to and reliant upon technology.

Information science might investigate questions about how users engage with the Internet, what tools can be developed to organize online content more effectively, or whether digital engagement affects values and behavior. Librarians and information professionals also explore and advocate on policy issues such as information access, media ownership and control, and censorship.
