North Seattle College is now offering a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and a one-year certificate program in IT Controlled Electronics — integrating electronics and IT networking skills to compete for a range of jobs within the electronics and IT industries.
The programs provide the skills needed to install, maintain, trouble-shoot and monitor home/commercial systems that are networked or work remotely — security, entertainment and other home/office systems, and other equipment that incorporates “smart” technologies.
Curriculum Highlights
In the degree program, coursework in electronics and computer networking are emphasized, along with building the interpersonal skills necessary to work with customers and co-workers.
The certificate is designed to students interested in pursing employment in the IT-controlled electronics systems field as applications engineers or technicians. The certificate offers a choice of two tracks — Windows or Unix — and is intended for students who already have a two- or four-year degree or experience in the field.
Job Prospects
Graduates will be prepared to work in three broad areas, earning between $35,000 and $82,000 annually, depending on your area of specialization:
- IT computer specialist — systems consultant or sales engineer
- Electronics engineering technician — applications engineer, electronic systems technician or facilities engineer
- Security/fire alarm installer or technician
