Opportunity Grant

The Opportunity Grant program provides assistance for tuition, fees and required textbooks for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program. OG provides assistance with up to 45 credits of tuition and $1000 per year for books.

Do I qualify for the Opportunity Grant program?

Eligible academic program options include:

  • Pre-College / Basic and Transitional Studies (BTS) programs:
    • I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training):
      • Accounting
      • Early Childhood Education
      • Electronics
      • Information Technology
      • Pharmacy Technician
  • Career Training programs:  
    • Accounting certificate and degree options
    • Business degree options:
      • General Business AAS & AAS-T
    • Early Childhood Education certificate and degree options
    • Electronics
    • Health & Medical certificate and degree options:
      • Allied Health AAS-T
      • Emergency Medical Technician CERT
      • Nursing prerequisites
      • Pharmacy Technician CERT & AAS
    • Information Technology certificate and degree options
  • You are a Washington state resident
  • You do not have a college degree from the United States  (AA or higher)
  • You have financial need based on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid)
    • You must apply for financial aid before receiving OG funding for a second quarter
  • You have demonstrated satisfactory academic progress of 2.0 GPA (grade point average) or higher if you are currently enrolled
  • Your family income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty level (see table below for HHS Federal Poverty Guidelines)
    • You must submit income verification upon request to confirm meeting income guidelines.

How do I apply for the Opportunity Grant program?

  1. Take the Start Next Quarter survey to check your funding eligibility; the survey is not an application for funding.
  2. If eligible for funding, you should receive a Results page that lists the funding program(s) for which you may qualify. Click the ‘GO’ button to be directed to the Attend a Workshop page.
  3. On the Attend a Workshop page, enter your contact information then click the ‘GO’ button to be directed to the Get in Touch page.
  4. The Get in Touch page includes information for the Workforce Education Application and link; click on the link to open the application.
  5. Complete and submit the North Seattle College Workforce Education Online Application. You should receive a confirmation email upon submission. If you cannot find a confirmation email, make sure to check your junk/spam and if needed update your email settings to prevent emails from us at nworkforce@seattlecolleges.edu going to your junk/spam.
