Coordinated Studies (Coordinated Courses)

Regardless of which specific courses they register for, all students learn together in the scheduled class periods. Students fulfill the AA degree requirements met by the classes in which they register.
  • C1 . Defining America: Media History, and Social Change (10 Credits)

    How is media used to define America?  How do TV shows, movies, and online media influence the way we understand U.S. history and multicultural experiences? How can media manufacture social change?  In this class students will analyze media representations of past and present social movements while also working in groups to make their own media projects.

    Prerequisites: placement into English 101 recommended; ENGL& 102 requires English 101 completion

    courses you register for: Integrated Studies; U.S. Cultures; Communication; Individuals, Cultures and Society; English 102

    Enrollment Requirements

    Register for any two of the following three classes:

  • C2 . The Heart of the Issue: Film, Place, and Human Rights (10 credits)

    All over the world people are facing human rights and environmental issues. What can we do as global citizens to better understand and address these challenges?  Can the values and perspectives of non-Western and indigenous cultures provide a new way of seeing our common problems?  How does our understanding of place inform our approach to human rights and the environment? The course will approach these questions by viewing and analyzing films from non-Western and indigenous film makers and by investigating philosophical approaches to the environment and human rights.  Using this global and interdisciplinary approach, can we better understand current environmental and human rights issues and envision possible solutions?

     Prerequisites: Placement into English 101 recommended; ENGL 102 requires English 101 completion
