Short-term Programs

North offers you the choice of quarter-long programs and short-term ones.

The quarter-long programs through WCCCSA provide students the opportunity to study and live in a new culture for up to 10-weeks during the fall, winter or spring quarter.

Travel with a group of local community college students and a faculty coordinator from one of the WCCCSA schools. You will be registered for 15 college-level credits.

Study Abroad staff highly recommend that you meet with an academic advisor prior to your departure, to create an educational plan to ensure the study abroad courses will meet your academic needs.

Short-term Programs

North’s short-term programs occur during the intersession break between summer and fall quarter. These programs are four-week-long intensive language programs that can accommodate students with beginning to advanced foreign language skills. You will be registered for five college-level foreign language credits.

On a short-term program you will live with a host family, get personalized language instruction, and have the opportunity to go on excursions to explore and immerse yourself in the language and culture of the country you are visiting.

In past summers our students, along with students from the other WCCCSA member community colleges, have travelled to Peru and Costa Rica on short-term study abroad programs.

Come meet with the Study Abroad coordinator to learn more about short-term program offerings at North Seattle College.

Kudos

For many years, I have been fascinated with Italy in general and Florence in particular as the place where the Renaissance started and our modern world began. Through the WCCCSA/AIFS program I finally had the opportunity to live in the city of the Medicis, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, and Machiavelli. I found it wasn’t merely an open-air museum. Instead, I found Florence to be a vibrant, modern city that preserves and cherishes its past while living fully in the present. The academic quarter was (just) enough time to get a sense of the place as it was and as it is now.

I appreciate that, as an intermittent, older student and as a life-long learner, I was welcomed and encouraged by all of those I encountered through this program. And I appreciated my younger colleagues, who treated me as a peer and a friend. Their enthusiasm, passion, intelligence and thoughtfulness, empathy and care, diligence and persistence inspired me, restoring my hope that the future will be in good hands.
