This certificate prepares students to enter the real estate field in position as Brokers, Broker Assistants, or Real Estate Associate. Learn ethical and legal standards of the real estate industry, difference between sustainable and traditional construction and development, and how to effectively promote sale of properties.

Students complete 20 credits, resulting in a Real Estate Certificate. Classes are approved continuing education clock hours for real estate brokers, property managers, and appraisers by the Washington State Department of Licensing. Upon completion, students can choose continue to the Real Estate AAS.

(DOL Pre-licensing educational requirement)

Pre-license course prepares the student for the Washington State Real Estate Salesperson License Exam. Also introduces sales and listing practices, financing, appraising, title, escrow, and property management. Approved for Department of Licensing Sales/Broker Licensing Test. (Fulfills 60 DOL clock hours for licensing requirement.) Some computer experience useful.

RES 100 5.0

Course Substitute : BUS 169 - Using Computers in Business I

Designed to "power-up" Real Estate Agents, Appraisers, Investors, Property Managers and Loan Officers with the use of Technology. Learn how to use Microsoft's Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and the Internet to create marketing materials, manage your time and contacts, communicate using e-mail, create spreadsheets to track or analyze data, create professional letters, and use Internet resources specifically designed for today's Real Estate Industry. Some experience using computers highly recommended. (Fulfills 50 DOL continuing education clock hours.)

RES 101 5.0

Become aware of the extent of real estate fraud within the real estate sales, finance and appraisal industries. Gain an overview of numerous past and present fraud cases, the local and national extent of the problem, and the impact on the market place. Find out how to avoid potential fraudulent acts. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution! (Fulfills 10 DOL & DFI clock hours.) Recommend RES 100 which may be taken concurrently. Meets 5/5 to 5/12/2010

RES 106 1.0

Course Substitute : RES 217 - Real Estate Development & Sustainability (3 credits)

Gain cutting edge information about developing, building, and marketing 'Green Real Estate'. Learn about environmental sustainability, water and energy efficiency/utilization, architecture and design process, materials for new construction and remodeling, sustainable site selection and acquisition, demographics and psychographics of green minded consumers. Important course for real Estate Sales Persons, Appraisers, Home Owners, Investors, Developers and Builders. Become a Built Green Certified Professional with successful completion of the course. (30 DOL clock hours.)

RES 130 3.0

(DOL Pre-licensing educational requirement)

Washington State required course addresses the sales process: obtaining and servicing listings, qualifying the buyer, showing real propert negotiating and servicing the sale. The curriculum includes time organization and goal setting. (Fulfills 30 DOL continuing education cl requisites: RES 100, or RES 110, or RES 210, (or concurrent enrollment in RES 210) or real estate experience or real estate licenses or by instructor permission.

(DOL continuing education clock hours)

Review the principles of real estate law, including acquisition, encumbrance, transfer, rights and obligations of parties, and Washington State regulations thereof. (Fulfills 30 DOL continuing education clock hours.) Prerequisites: RES 100 or RES 110 or real estate experience, or instructor permission.
