Earn a 4-year Engineering Degree Without Leaving North’s Campus!
If you have your sights set on becoming an engineer, Eastern Washington University and North Seattle College offer you a unique opportunity to complete a 4-year electrical engineering degree entirely on the North campus.
An ABET-accredited program, the EWU Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering allows you to take 2 years of electrical engineering preparatory coursework at North and remain on campus to earn your 4-year engineering degree. This gives you an alternative to the University of Washington and private school engineering programs — at public university tuition rates.

As an electrical engineer, you’ll put math, physics and logical thinking to work in all areas of technological innovation:
• Design biomedical, audio, video, broadcast, navigational equipment and embedded computing systems.
• Develop systems for forensics, communications, medical diagnosis, machine control and signal-processing.
• Test electronic circuits, digital control systems, fiber-optic and laser systems, and medical imaging systems.
• Supervise the manufacture of electronic components, the implementation of new medical technologies, and the production and transmission of power.
• Electrical engineering jobs are well-paid — $68,778 average starting salary, according to a 2015 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. With their complex theoretical perspective, electrical engineers are constantly in demand.
The BSEE Curriculum
The BSEE program is taught by faculty members from both EWU and North through an integrated curriculum of distance education, interactive televideo conferencing classes, and regular classroom courses — with hands-on, face-to-face laboratory experiences. Faculty members from both campuses work closely together to provide excellent coursework, advising and student support.
The first 2 years, taken through day or evening classes at North, offer a solid foundation in mathematics and physics. The third year introduces students to a broad spectrum of rigorous electrical engineering coursework with specialization and capstone coursework in the fourth year.
Program Draws on Both Schools’ Strengths
The degree program draws on North’s already successful transfer programs in engineering and computer science. (The College has been preparing students for transfer to UW and private 4-year engineering programs for years.) Now you can stay at North to finish your degree. Save money and avoid relocating! You’ll continue to have the advantage of North’s small class sizes and well-equipped electronics laboratory facilities on campus.
Eastern Washington University’s Engineering and Design Department brings expertise in multiple engineering specialities — digital signal processing, communications, integrated circuits and power. EWU faculty members are industry-experienced, are committed to teaching (not just research) and have worked with distance education over many years. EWU has a reputation for strong recruiting and retention among non-traditional engineering students (including foreign students, women and minorities). Professor Esteban Rodriguez-Marek, chair of the department of Engineering and Design, is proud of the low faculty-student ratio and the fact that faculty doors are always open to ensure a supportive environment for student success.
How to Apply
To qualify for the program, students must apply directly to Eastern Washington University. There is no additional application for the engineering program; acceptance to the engineering program is automatic once students have been admitted to Eastern Washington and have enrolled at North. (You don’t need to make a special application to North, which has open enrollment.) Prospective students may also transfer from other community colleges.
Apply for admission as soon as possible to ensure priority financial aid consideration. Federally funded Smart Grants provide up to $4,000 for third- and fourth-year engineering students who meet eligibility requirements.
