Program Overview

Program Pathways are a series of courses and experiences carefully selected to help you earn your credential and prepare for your career or university transfer. Program Pathway Maps guide you through quarter-by-quarter coursework, indicate when you’ll need to complete important steps, and describe popular careers in this pathway. Some course sequences or recommended courses can be customized or adjusted by speaking with an advisor.

Information Session

Join us for our Joint CS Information Session with UW. You will learn about the pathways into both our Computer Science BS at North and UW Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science. You will also learn about the application process, prerequisite requirements, and what makes our programs unique.

  • Date: February 6, 2024
  • Time: 1 p.m. Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Join Zoom Meeting

Join us for an Hour of Code on November 16th 1-3pm in our brand new Computer Science technology lab classroom. No programming skills necessary! Learn from current computer science students, faculty, and campus support services. A fun coding activity will be included, along with, the opportunity to hear more about our CS BS and AD BAS degree programs we offer here at North. Snacks and swag will be provided. Reach out to Jeffrey.Eng@seattlecolleges.edu to sign up.

Prepare for Success as a Computer Science Transfer

The primary goal of North’s Computer Science program is to prepare you for successful transfer to a 4-year institution. Three levels of computer science courses satisfy the prerequisites for most computer science and engineering departments at the UW and other universities. North transfers many students to 4-year colleges every year. These students succeed in all areas of engineering and computer science.

CS courses include Introduction to Computer Programming, Computers for Math and Science (non-major sequence), and Computer Programming I and II (major sequence).

This pathways chart of computer science transfer courses at North will help you plan for a computer science major.

For information about the new Bachelor of Applied Science in Application Development, see their program pages.

For training and immediate entry into the workplace, check out North’s IT department.

Introductory/Non-Major/Major Sequences

At North you can complete an AA degree, prepare for transfer to a 4-year college or university without a degree, or take courses to supplement your studies if you are a student elsewhere. In addition to coursework in programming, our introductory courses for non-majors satify requirements in other programs like science, health science and nanotechnology.

Rigorous Curriculum & Flexible Formats

Enter the program by taking Intermediate Algebra. Then take 1, 2, or 3 quarters of computer science courses as required by your major. Our strong curriculum employs modern programming languages. CS faculty members all have master’s degrees in related fields with many years of work experience and varied interests and specialties — including open source software, linguistics and application software in engineering fields.

Take advantage of flexible class scheduling by choosing from 3 online courses (supplemented with instructor-produced videos), as well as traditional classroom formats, with day and some evening classes.

Tech Support

North’s 3 open labs have 100 computers, available to all computing students on campus. You also have access to excellent tutoring services online and through the Math Learning Center.
