Broadband Cable technicians install, repair and test telecommunications wiring and equipment in the customer’s home or business premises. Technicians routinely maintain telephone systems (using VoIP), Internet connectivity, TV, HDTV, video-on-demand and other communications services by installing wiring inside the home or connecting existing wiring to outside service lines. Depending upon the service required, workers may set up television capability, connect modems and install software on a customer’s computer.
Technicians diagnose problems and correct malfunctions, sometimes from remote locations, and use high-end precise measuring instruments to test all aspects of signal quality, strength, voltage and frequency. To complete connections to an outside service line, the installer may need to climb telephone poles or ladders and test the line.
