Broadband Cable

North's Broadband Cable certificate provides entry-level training to work as a technician in the broadband cable industry. It's the only program in the region that specifically addresses broadband cable systems.

Curriculum Highlights

The Broadband program at North was the result of a 9-month project with Comcast. Faculty from North worked with Comcast trainers and supervisors to assist in developing effective training programs. At the conclusion of the project, North developed a short certificate which prepares students for entry-level broadband cable technician positions.

Broadband coursework includes Introduction to Broadband, A+ certification courses, Principles of Electronics and Customer Relations. Course content reflects current industry standards and is constantly revised and updated.

Since cable companies are so IT integrated, the A+ certification curriculum is included in the broadband certificate. Most electronics specialties take the broadband courses as well as the A+ certification, since so many electronic systems are IT interconnected.

Online Video Resources

Instructor Tim Fiegenbaum posts all of his assignments and presentations online so you can review what his courses are about before signing up (http://facweb.northseattle.edu/tfiegenb/eet/). Tim has also shared videos from one of his online courses with the largest open source electronic learning site in the world, http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/videos/index.html. These movies are used by students and faculty all over the world to supplement their electronics curricula.

Valuable Ties to Comcast

Well-equipped facilities at North feature a live Comcast signal in the broadband lab and high tech, industry-standard signal measurement and evaluation equipment. Through instructor Tim Fiegenbaum, the North Seattle College program is informally linked to Comcast, which hooks graduates in to Comcast recruitment.
