In 2013, North was awarded a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) “Models of Success” grant through the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. As part of the grant, North will participate in a year-long phase of a multi-year study that examines and highlights best practices working with Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) student populations across the nation.
North Seattle Community College was one of only three recipients in the country to be selected for this study, and one of twelve institutions involved across the length of the project. This grant is being used to fund the Northstar Navigator program.
The Northstar Peer Navigator program is a holistic support service for students by students designed to provide academic and social resources for both new and existing students.
The underlying mission of this program is to systematically support and challenge our diverse student populations to increase their academic success.
Navigators are available to provide eligible students with both individual and group tutoring in developmental Math and English. In addition to tutoring, Navigators also assist students with completing financial aid and scholarships applications.
If you would like to receive assistance from one of our navigators, please complete the eligibility form located on the Women’s Center website.
